2015
The First Ember
Started with a wild idea after a camping trip gone wrong (long story involving rain and failed matches). That's when it hit me - people need real warmth, not just temperature but that deep-down feeling you get around a crackling fire with good company.
2017
Building the Foundation
Acquired the heritage building on West Georgia. Locals thought we were nuts for choosing a spot that needed so much work, but the bones were perfect. Spent eighteen months renovating while preserving the original character - every brick tells a story.
2019
Grand Opening
Opened our doors in March with twelve suites and a simple fire pit on the rooftop. The response was incredible - turns out Vancouver was craving this kind of experience. That first year taught us everything about what guests really wanted.
2021
Expansion & Innovation
Added the thermal wellness spa and flame-grilled restaurant. Worked with Indigenous elders to understand traditional fire ceremonies - that collaboration shaped everything we do. It's about respect and authenticity, not just aesthetics.
2023
Recognition & Growth
Named Vancouver's Most Unique Boutique Hotel by Travel & Leisure. Expanded to twenty-eight suites and added the conference spaces. We're still small enough to know most of our regulars by name though.
2025
Today & Tomorrow
We're not done yet. Currently planning sustainable energy initiatives and expanding our wellness programs. The fire keeps burning, and honestly, we're just getting warmed up.

Look, I'm not gonna pretend I had this all figured out from day one. My background's in environmental design, and I spent years working for big hotel chains that felt... cold. Everything was efficient and modern and kinda soulless, you know?
The turning point came during a winter trip to northern BC. Got stuck in this tiny cabin during a storm with a group of strangers, and all we had was this old wood stove. By the end of that weekend, we were family. That's when I realized what hospitality was missing.

Building Flameward Nexus wasn't easy. Banks didn't get the concept, investors wanted us to "tone down the fire thing," and my family worried I'd lost it completely. But I knew there were people out there who craved authentic connection and real warmth in a world that's increasingly digital and disconnected.
What makes me proud isn't the awards or the fancy writeups (though they're nice, I'll admit). It's seeing a business traveler who's been on the road for weeks finally relax by our fire pit. It's watching families toast marshmallows together. It's the couples who've gotten engaged here because something about the atmosphere made them brave enough to take that leap.
Our Philosophy
Warmth First: Every decision we make asks "does this create warmth?" - and I don't just mean literal temperature.
Authentic Experiences: Nothing here is just for show. If we have a fire feature, it's because it serves a real purpose in bringing people together.
Sustainable Comfort: We can honor fire traditions while being responsible about our environmental impact. It's not either/or.

These days, I'm still here most weeks - you'll probably see me chatting with guests in the lobby or tinkering with new ideas for the spa. My team jokes that I can't let go, but why would I? This place is my life's work, and watching it evolve while staying true to its core mission is the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
We've got big plans ahead - more sustainable initiatives, deeper community partnerships, maybe even expanding the concept (though that's still just daydreaming at this point). But no matter how big we get, we'll always be that place where warmth meets wonder.
